Move your body, find your words!

p o e t r y s p a c e for 6th-9th graders - summer 2022

creativity in community

Join with your fellow writers and create p o e t r y s p a c e: a group that loves to read, discuss, imagine, write,  listen, and share. We gather in person and/or on Zoom to:

  • Warm up with playful movement activities
  • Dive into expansive free-writes (Brain Sweeps, Unfinished Lines)
  • Digest and discuss inspiring model poems
  • Experiment with form and structure
  • Generate new work to share

how we work

A summer session allows us the luxury of time for exploration. As usual, we'll start with Deb's Moved to Write® process: physical warm-ups to activate internal and external creative muscles. These activities help us cultivate flow and find ways around resistance.

Then we'll listen, read, question, discuss, brainstorm and write. Our writing atmosphere encourages deep listening to the model poems as well as each other's ideas. We'll reflect, experiment and collaborate. And when it's time to share, we're a thoughtful community who responds with positive feedback.

Organic Writing

Organic Writing: workshops for women.

a women's poetry circle

You were born to create! But sometimes creativity ends up taking a backseat to “real life.”  Organic Writing is a workshop series for women of all ages who are ready to step into a creative practice using Deb's innovative Moved to Write® process.

the process

Moved to Write workshops and classes begin with physical warm-ups to activate our internal and external creative muscles. Gentle movement, breath-work and imagery inspire new thoughts and inform the discussion. We then motivate the poem with questions, wordplay, self-awareness activities, and plenty of time for writing and sharing.

a creative community

In this monthly writing class you’ll align with the unlimited source of your own ideas. Our warm and supportive community meets to read and write poetry, and to listen deeply to one another.

discover

  • inventive prompts to get you started and keep you going
  • easy physical warm-ups designed to improve focus,  balance, and communication
  • tools to manage fear, anxiety and writer’s block
  • literary techniques to hone your writing skills and broaden your poetic horizons
  • strategies for honoring and responding to the work of others
  • ways to re-think and revise your own writing
  • how to manage resistance and find your creative flow

you are welcome here

"Thank you for always providing such a wonderful, supportive, and safe workshop where my organic thinking can become art. Your class, our group, the movement and writing activities- it’s now my oxygen.

I need it to breathe!" - Lisa Booker
